larry and bell are two musos from the east and west of the atlantic, who met on a scuba trip in belize in 99. larry plays bongos, bell is on the organic sampler and echo pedal, and a local cast of musicians backed them up on guitar, double bass, and kick drum. after a few rum daiquiris and many spliff, these are the sessions whittled down to strictly the best of hits.

after releasing their own debut record in 2014 the hamburg based group sky walking formed by peter kersten, christian naujoks and richard von der schulenburg now celebrates the launch of their self-titled label. by bringing together an international line-up of artists mostly associated with the new and experimental music scenes in cities like hamburg, berlin and new york sky walking not only establishes a link between different locations and their specific (local) scenes – with the golden pudel club in hamburg somehow functioning as a bermuda triangle – but also between different generations of artists from these scenes.

copenhagen-based imprint ectotherm returns with “ingen tak til systemet” from local gem, rune bagge. the ep features four diverse cuts ranging from drum’n’bass-leaning idm to straight, floor-filling techno. as a dj, bagge has been a part of the dk scene for years, providing dancefloors with heavy and crunched up percussive sounds, which he continues with this ep as his debut solo production effort.

for those of you wondering what adesse versions was doing at our heist boiler room this summer in london, the answer is here. the “push it along” ep for heist is adesse versions first appearance on our label and features 4 stunningly raw and warm originals, and an amazing remix by new york’s ambassador of funk: ge-ology, together with multi-instrumentalist marc de clive-lowe on keys. after having released numerous records for jackmaster’s numbers, local talk and toy tonics, we’re happy to welcome adesse versions to the heist family. when he sent us his demo’s we had the tough job to choose the right tracks, cause there were just too many. the selection on the “push it along ep” features what we feel are his purest work up to date. with only a small amount of elements, he manages to create such a big and warm sound, finding a great balance between gritty percussion, rich analog synths and funky sampling work.

it s not all minimal techno in romania, as the p-balans crew ably demonstrate on this second release from local hero the holy fix. the synths come down thick and gloopy on -the void- before -slagwise- ramps up the horror tones with a perfect distillation of what makes a soundtrack pop off. this is nightmarish disco music in the vein of maiovvi and the like, and it s delivered impeccably. there is a greater focus on club tones amongst the atmospheric fx on tracks & traps though, with -quite vicious- in particular conjuring up a thrilling, madcap romp through buffed up disco techno.

in the spring of 2015, max d flew west for an extended stay at the mood hut chalet. a week of studio haze with various configurations of music people produced “always on” — presented here in three versions: the club mix, bonus beats, and original mix. plus a special club bonus track, four, for all the tripping djs in the local area and beyond.

doktu rhute muuzic (formerly roy hytower) has enjoyed a full career from his late teens to this present day, a career that spans over 50 years. his first experiences were singing around mobile, alabama. in 1962 he came to chicago, replacing mighty joe young as rhythm guitarist for otis rush. often adopting a soul-slanted sound, hytower cut a handful of 45rpm singles in the 1960s and 70s for several local labels such as avin, expo, brainstorm, and jiffy. in june 2016 his tune “song of deliverance” was featured on tramp’s “peace chant- compilation. in recent years roy hytower has self-released a couple of cds, however under his new moniker, doktu rhute muuzic. “i’m in your corner” and “tip jar” were released on two different cd albums. this is the only chance to get these two wonderful tunes on vinyl. don’t miss it!

the dba dubs series returns with a fresh tropical house roller from samrai backed by a remix from michigan resident james t. cotton. khadi brings together samrai s tough drums and ethereal sun-kissed fx with a helping of keys from an anonymous local collaborator. on the flip jtc, the artist behind dabrye, sound murderer and a host of other cult catalogues reinvents khadi as a detroit house stepper. manchester resident via the midlands, samrai makes up 50% of the swing ting production unit. he s released with distinguished labels such as keysound, niche & bump and uttu as well as collaborating with ruf dug, murlo, brackles & hyperdub s okzharp. his dj sets take in x-amount of styles, always system-friendly with an emphasis on the soulful side of things.

funk was the syncopated groove that emerged in the mid-sixties through hits from james brown and dyke and the blazers. it was a natural development out of rhythm and blues. thousands of local bands tried to emulate brown’s success, and in the process created a plethora of rare and sought after 45s and album cuts that have been mined by djs and producers to fill floors or provide breakbeats. whilst the 20 tracks on this compilation would cost you thousands of pounds to own on their original issue, that isn’t really the point. instead you get to listen to magnificent grooves such as mickey & the soul generations explosive ‘iron leg’, andrew brown’s blues tinged ‘you made me suffer’ or the message music of 24 carat black.
j&d records release three exceptional compilations that look at vintage african-american music through the prism of uk club culture. all night long, can you feel that beat and extra added soul will be available on double vinyl and are compiled by dj and award winning compiler dean rudland, with stunning artwork from his long-time collaborators the unknown. across the three volumes there are 60 tracks of soul, funk and boogie.

sydney based swede adam stromstedt returns for the second release on lyssna, which he co-runs with partners out of stockholm and amsterdam. he s previously done stuff on bristol s banoffee pies and local imprint junk yard connections, mr. tophat s label. his offering on the a side entitled -sinbad- is a dusty and hypnotic deep house jam, that will appeal to fans of thomas melchior or more recently rene audiard. on the flip, there s label co-owner flord king, who just so happens to be the aforementioned connection in amsterdam. his contribution -dapper- is another excursion in subtle trance induction with rolling bass, immaculately programmed rhythm and woozy pads for added effect.

celestial being visited nairobi at the end of august and beginning of september 2012 where he worked with local musicians to create celestial music. kenge kenge brought cow horns and hand made drums and were joined by local folk singers olith, who had come to nairobi through making music with king kong and irungu with his father who has since passed. when asked what the kenge groove sounded like, the receptionist prisca said its like the angel is coming before proceeding to provide additional vocals for all three tracks. nairobi story tells of an ancient village story passed down as a folk song to the present generation. celestial being kept forgetting whether olith was male or female and ending up making a song with him called all woman. this is currently a vinyl only release

rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

pau encinas also known as cauto returns after several years of apparent inactivity. his previous ep, 35/8, was published in 2011 via disboot. since then until now, he has worked on several collaborations and remixes. one of the reasons for disboots existence is to promote and release young and local talent. cauto, without exception, is an essential one of these.
from his first release on dj rupture’s dutty artz in 2008, pau has been developing his skills as a producer and talented musician rooted in his background in catalan folk music. the culmination of his musical evolution is the crystallisation of his new lp.

humanoid x is cpus deepest foray into detroit techno so far, from blixaboy aka mwanza dover texas based artist, friend of cygnus and very much part of the local electro scene. dover presents an album influenced by the pioneers of the hypnotic groove. on first pass you’ll find elements of krautrock through to the belleville three, all with finely crafted arrangements that reveal themselves in more detail on each listen. a cyberpunk theme runs throughout as blade runner-esque synths wash over the album evoking late night electric-city noodle restaurant contemplation. blixaboy has selected 4 of the more dj friendly tracks from the album for the vinyl e.p. treatment.

repress, this year we have reached our long term goal as a label which was to expand our releases into the wax department. we feel like we ve done a good job bringing upcoming and original local talent to the surface so far and it is only fitting that our first vinyl release is done by the icelandic duo david & hjalti. the duo has been busy with the production since their arrival from manchester and have played a number of great live sets underlining their skills as producers. we feel that this release is the high standard we set ourselves before going vinyl and that this is just a small first step in a fruitful beginning for the producers david & hjalti.

this up and coming producer is already a legend amongst the crew of techno freaks in brooklyn. with previous releases on local imprint lovers rock, and releases slated for proibito and exotic dance under the the aliases dj python and dj xanax, dj wey aka brian pinyero has contributed a massive 12” to bank records. the a side “song for masahiro” is dedicated to masahiro ueda, a dj and friend who graced the bk scene by way of japan. it’s a bass heavy tune with melodic pads floating in the forefront amongst the occasional cheering sample. it s perfect for either opening or closing a set midsummer. in contrast, the b side opens with “flow on.” with its distorted kicks, relentless claps and hypnotic bells one could imagine hearing it on a nightmarish carnival ride...fit that into a set. the record ends on an electro tip with spaced out pads, backwards samples and classic electro style drum patterns. distinct in sound and diverse in approach, don t sleep on the homie dj wey.

derek carr is a name known by few and far between, with only a handful of vinyl releases in the early 2000s, he built a worthy but unfortunately not widely-spread reputation for putting together stunning deep techno. originally pressed in finite numbers, the records have recently found themselves in demand on discogs, and rightly so, derek’s music is in a class of its own. having been a big fan since his releases on then local (to label owner ben) leeds label geek records, for those that knoe has dug deep into the archives to put together a sizeable selection of dereks back catalogue, with some unreleased gems dotted amongst the classic must-haves, spread across three eps

timmy ps latest outing on dessous recordings continues the long list of illustrious labels that have been home to his house vision. now based in london, timmy has a string of emphatic releases under his belt, not least on influential imprints such as local talk, extended play, dirt crew and madtech. with safety first, timmys playful approach to the deeper side of house shines though. the title track mixes crisp, crunchy drums with warm, soft pads and a bubbling bass line - a deep rolling cut with plenty of punch for the floor. the fantastically named grim fandango is a little tougher, with the snares and claps snapping tightly over a taut, un-resistible vibe. timmys balance of dynamics is masterful, each element perfectly complimenting each other to create a tour de force over 8 minutes. bosh is similarly crafted - the original echoing classic 90s house but feeling completely fresh for 2016, while james dexters remix is a robust, deep roller. this is house music made with joy and passion.
